Women’s Sleepwear – 5 Rules to Choosing the Best Style for You
By Erin Braxton
As the temperature begins to drop, staying in and cozying up in your favorite pajamas becomes more and more appealing. But what sort of sleepwear do you choose? So the age-old question in women’s sleepwear comes to mind, “What do you like to sleep in?”
Everyone has a preference…
“a T-shirt and underwear”
“boxers and a tank”
“I just sleep in my underwear.”
“I sleep naked”
No matter what your answer, having sleepwear appropriate for any given occasion is necessary at some point in our lives. Whether you’re just lying around the house and someone comes over unannounced or you’re traveling and staying with friends. Sleeping in the buff may not always be the welcomed preference.
The Fall/Holiday season is the best time to get the best sleepwear and loungewear for women. And with so many kinds to choose from, purchasing some for yourself, rather than just waiting on a really bad pair to be gifted to you, is the only way to get what you want and will actually use. Here are some rules on buying the right sleepwear for you.
Rule No. 1- When choosing sleepwear to actually sleep in, make sure it’s comfortable and doesn’t restrict movement.
If you don’t like to be fully covered and always get tangled in long dresses, you may opt for a chemise style instead of a long gown. Perhaps some cute lounge shorts or pants make you more comfortable. Remember, you can always complement it with a matching robe if you get cold.
Rule No. 2- When choosing sleepwear to lounge around in, better known as loungewear, make sure it isn’t something that would embarrass you for others to see.
Often times we just want comfortable clothes that we can hang around the house in, and perhaps we’ll sleep in them later. But if an unannounced visitor comes knocking (like UPS or a friend in the neighborhood) you don’t want to feel like you’re scrambling to cover up. The same rule applies when you’re traveling and simply relaxing in someone else’s home.
Rule No. 3- Choose sleepwear that you like, that feels good on your skin and makes you feel attractive.
If flannel pajamas are warm but look frumpy, you may want to choose something more attractive for your significant other. Try soft cottons and modals. They often come in more fashion forward designs than flannel. And if you want to keep things a little sexier, there are always cute options that don’t fall into the teddy, negligee category, but those are nice to have, too!
Rule No. 4- Consider getting additional matching pieces to give you a more complete look.
Coordinating pieces in sleepwear can make your clothing more versatile. If you chose a chemise for sleep, pick a matching robe so you’ll be more covered around the house. If you choose a set that has boy briefs and pant options, think about getting both. Hanging around the house in pants is the perfect option for lounging. But in the bed you may like a little more freedom to move around.
Rule No. 5- Don’t skimp on quality.
Most people think that spending a lot of money on sleepwear and loungewear doesn’t make the most sense. And for some people, it really doesn’t. But if you spend a lot of time in your sleepwear and loungewear, why wouldn’t you get something that you really love? Instead of spending $500 on a dress that you may never wear, or just wear once during the season, put some of that money into your daily lounge wardrobe. Something that you know you’ll use!
While preferences in the type of sleep clothing to wear is subjective, every now and then picking something to wear that is occasion-appropriate is necessary. Shop for sleepwear and loungewear at http://www.erinbraxton.com.
